Well, if I'd done it that quickly it'd be something dumb like...macaroni art. I will not be giving you macaroni art, I have higher standards.

No, I’m fine. I’ll leave the door unlocked.

[He's gonna bring along the little tiny cucumbers from the market anyways~ Birthday cukes.

But then his arms are full so it takes some readjusting and muttering before he can get the door open.] Gotta just -- get this -- the knob --

[Happy birthday, Junpei, your entryway is full of spilled cucumbers now.]

[ Junpei had been in the kitchen, but the sound of veggies hitting the floor has him in the front room in an instant. His eyes go wide as he scrambles to pick up the cucumbers, trying to resist the strong urge to just start feasting on them right off the ground. ]

There’s so many! You didn’t have to get this much!

[natzoom]

There was a sale! [Natsume is an incurable bargain-hunter, okay. He waves one of the cucumbers at Junpei, sternly.] No eating until I wash them.

[He sees your bunny urges.]

[ Very rude to wave the temptation right in front of him, but he keeps himself from chomping air. ]

I eat things out of the woods all the time but all right, let’s go to the kitchen.

[natzoom]

[Huffy noises, with his arms full of cukes.] That's different.

[It's not, at all. But Natsume will reach out with his tail to coil it around Junpei's arm and gently tug him back for a cheek smooch.] Aslo: hello. How are you?

[moondregs]

[ The kiss surprises him, but he’s quickly returning it in kind with a little laugh, reaching out a hand to scratch behind a kitty ear. ]

We woke up together this morning. It’s only been a couple hours.

[natzoom]

Three and a half hours. [Natsume corrects this loftily, ears twitching a couple times at the scritches. Then he's scooping up the cucumbers and going to wash them, letting his tail drag up over Junpei's arm and shoulder. Flirty tail.]

[ It makes a shiver run through Junpei’s body as he follows after, a dreamy smile forming on his face that he would say was goofy if he could see it. ]

Can I help you somehow? I mean ... I know you said you just need to wash them, but ...

[natzoom]

[Natsume is getting better at keeping his tail coordinated, reaching out to open the cupboard with it so he can grab the colander. Just -- helping himself to all the kitchen doodads.]

You can sit. [So bossy!] I'm making lunch. And no peeking in my bag.

[moondregs]

[ Well now his eyes are looking towards the bag curiously! But he’s an obedient bunny and takes a seat at the kitchen table. ]

There’s more than the cucumbers? Natsume ...

[natzoom]

[A very good bunny. Natsume rummages through the cupboards, gathering together some leftovers -- mostly vegetables that he remembers buying, a few things that he's going to pretend were not stolen from someone's garden. He's not a good cook, but salads are easy. Just put a bunch of stuff in a bowl.

Then he smiles brightly over his shoulder, refusing to be dissuaded.] Of course. The cucumbers were on the way here, and in my bag is what I made yesterday. Or, ah, what I've been working on. I've tested it, it should work very well. But you have to be patient, because I can't cut lettuce and show you at the same time.

[ To Junpei’s credit there is legal produce that Henry brings him as well! Not all unaccounted for items are bunny crimes! Maybe a single tomato or two. ]

Tested it?

[ He’s even more curious about what it could be. With Natsume his first inclination is something to wear, but maybe it’s also food? His nose wiggles as he thinks over the possibilities, as it tends to nowadays when he’s deep in his thoughts. ]

Am I more of a guinea pig today, then?

[ Just a little fond teasing. ]

[natzoom]

[Natsume is distracted enough by the cute nose-wiggling that he almost cuts his finger instead of the cucumber. But no, not allowed, no bleeding on a birthday.]

No, no, I tested it. I was the guinea pig, I suppose. [It was a very imperfect kind of testing. He ran into a lot of trees.] Are we-- um, are you out of cilantro?

[Whoops, almost slipped up there, kiddo.]

[ The slip up makes a little burst of something warm and dizzying bloom in Junpei’s chest. He stumbles on his reply. ]

I ... if there’s none in the cupboard, I guess I must be. Is it important? Should I go get some?

[natzoom]

No, no, just curious. [Banging around in the cupboards now to try and hide how he's blushing. Please ignore him, please do not Perceive.] It'll be good without it too.

[Chopping things! Very quickly!]

[moondregs]

[ It’s kind of hard for him just to ignore the center of his universe, bro. He watches the banging around in confusion, standing up to start and walk over. ]

Are you okay? Did I say something wrong?

[natzoom]

What? [Natsume looks over, eyes wide, blinking a few times. Then he shakes his head, carefully setting down the knife and scooping the various chopped veggies into a bowl.]

No, no, of course you didn't. I just. Misspoke. [He's so red right now. He offers the bowl.] Ah. Salad.

[moondregs]

[ The salad distraction actually works, Junpei’s eyes going large and shiny at the bowl full of vegetables. He reaches out with hands excitedly trembling, swallowing hard as he licks his lips. ]

All for me?

[natzoom]

[Yessss, thank you, salad distraction. Natsume actually giggles at that, a strangely soft, bright sound, nudging the bowl into Junpei's hands.]

All for you. I already ate. [Meat, that's about the only reason he leaves Junpei's side anymore, because he likes his food medium-rare and that makes bunny queasy.]

[ One of Junpei’s other odd new habits is a preference to just ... eat like a rabbit. As such it’ll probably be no surprise to Natsume when he just sticks his head down into the bowl and starts grazing. The gentle sounds of a bunny just munching on fresh vegetables, his little fluffy tail wiggling in bliss behind him. ]

[natzoom]

[Oh no, that's cute. Never mind that Natsume has seen it probably a zillion times, it's still adorable every time. He actually just...sits there with his chin propped in his hand. Gazing.]

[moondregs]

[ Breathing is also important! Junpei raises his head to do just that, a piece of lettuce stuck to his cheek as he notices Natsume gazing at him. ]

... ah ... it’s really good ... thank you.
